Fall 2011 Fashion Trends

This Fall seems like it's going to be fun! Here are some of the trends to look forward to:

1. VELVET
Deep luxe velvet caught our eye.

We can't get enough of Proenza Schouler's exceptional
panné velvet graphic dress, while daywear boast fresh silhouettes from the likes of
Jenni Kayne, Steven Alan, and Tory Burch. Slick, chic, and tailored.

2. TUX LUXE
Tuxedo dressing comes into play.

Menswear-inspired suits and separates were remixed
with tuxedo details creating a decadent directional statement. DKNY's tuxedo
striped cape coat will make for a standout topper, and we can't stop
swooning over Derek Lam's bright red and black trousers. .

3. SHEEN
Shimmer and shine makes everything look fine.

Come Fall, we're dousing ourselves in a little, or a lot, of glossy components.
Preen's multi-colored mash-up is a genius take on dressed-up daywear, and we're
obsessing over DVF's stunning horizontal striped dress. .

4. PEPLUM
Sweet poufs of volume add texture and depth.

Peplum detailing, no longer just for for French aristocrats, received a fresh
face lift for Fall. Thakoon's fanciful take on the lumberjack plaid vest was a pure stroke
of genius. Other notable pieces hail from Marc Jacobs's bedazzled ensemble,
to more minimal looks from Preen, Peter Som.

5. THIGH-HIGH SLITS
Leg-bearing cuts emote a sensual and sleek vibe.

Hemlines are getting longer but that doesn't mean you won't be showing
some skin. We foresee ourselves wearing these thigh-high slits — seen from Michael Kors,
Diane von Furstenberg, Jenni Kayne, and Jason Wu — to swanky dinner soirees
and cocktail parties in the near future.

6. SHEARLING AND FUR
Sumptuous shearling and fur made a major mark in our book.

We're heady in lust with the endless shearling and fur options from
the runway. For those not opposed to it, check out these amazing
looks from Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, Rag & Bone,
and Alexander Wang for the ultimate
and decadent Winter essential.

7. PENCIL SKIRTS
Lady-like skirts are back and better than ever.

We're stowing away our mini-skirts for this chic cut now and later for Fall.
Details, like buckles on Altuzarra's version and Libertine's textural
print, add the perfect punky and artful touch
to an otherwise modest shape.

8. CAPES AND PONCHOS
Capes and ponchos are here to stay.

If you haven't invested in a poncho or cape, now is the time. Fall 2011
displayed a cornucopia of new styles, ranging from a nubby off-white Western-inspired
poncho from Band of Outsiders to a vibrant streamlined cape coat
from DKNY. What's not to love?

9. DUSTER COATS
Elegant floor-sweeping coats grabbed our attention.

Duster coats will become a Winter essential thanks to Rodarte, Bill Blass,
Michael Kors, and Theyskens Theory. We especially love them paired with long
maxis and wide-leg trouser pants.
