It's that time of year where I pack up my Georgy bungle and head to NYC for PanJazz. I'm looking forward to Allison Hinds' contribution this year!

PAN JAZZ 2012
Music The Original Social MediaWhat connects us with old friends and new ones alike, we use it to break up to make up and take up. It can start a revolution and yet end wars or just make us feel - No, it's not facebook or twitter we're talking music. This June 16th, Abstract Entertainment presents Pan Jazz 2012's production of Music - the original social media. Music IS indeed the original social media and we once again celebrate it's hypnotic unifying grip that transcends time and borders with the stylings of the simply electrifying Soca Queen Alison Hinds and the thought elevating rebel sounds of Thandiswa Mazwai - backed by an all star Caribbean ensemble led by Etienne Charles, Victor Provost, Leon Foster Thomas, Ronald Boo Hinkson with guest South African bassist, composer, vocalist… Bakithi Kumalo and more will take you on this year’s Journey, “Music The Original Social Media”

Start the experience off right by attending the Complimentary World Pre-Concert Reception. The Pre-Concert Reception will feature tastings from various indigenous restaurants in and around New York City featuring Caribbean and South African delights. Reception Kicks off at 4:30pm in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Atrium on the 5th Floor.
Featuring:

Alison Hinds
ALISON HINDS, a true Caribbean Queen, came to the throne thru SOCA (popular dance music of the Southern Caribbean) that is rapidly gaining popularity among music lovers around the globe. It is a sexy music known for its infectious rhythms and spirited spicy lyrics that inspires jubilant audience participation albeit with waving hands and flags to swaying hips, all in a ritualistic celebration that exemplifies life today in the Caribbean and is synonymous with Caribbean Carnival celebrations worldwide
Thandiswa Mazwai

Following in the footsteps of artists like Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka and Brenda Fassie, singer and songwriter Thandiswa Mazwai is one of the most popular female musicians in South Africa today. Previously the lead vocalist of award-winning group Bongo Maffin, with whom she played a part in the foundation of the Kwaito music scene, Mazwai has enjoyed a great deal of success since she launched her solo career. She received a Metro FM award for Best Female Vocalist in 2004 after the release of her debut solo album, Zabalaza, an achievement that was followed up in 2005 at the South African Music Awards, where she won the Best Female Artist and Best African Adult Contemporary awards.
