With Wake Up!'s release exactly two weeks away, more material from John Legend & The Roots hit the web today. First up is their rendition of Baby Huey & The Babysitters "Hard Times" which we got an in-studio performance video of back in June. "Hard Times" is one of the album cuts that features a verse from Black Thought, so you know you want to check that. Also leaking today is the only original tune on the album, "Shine." You might remember this song was initially recorded for Davis Guggenheim's documentary, Waiting For Superman. The track is probably my favorite song on the album. Hear them both below. Tomorrow morning we'll be posting the official Wake Up! EPK and it's looking sharp, so check back for that. Wake Up! drops September 21st. Via OKP

Here’s the official video for John Legend and The Roots collaboration “Wake Up Everybody,” featuring Common and Melanie Fiona
“Wake Up Everybody” is the first single from the forthcoming joint album by John Legend x The Roots, titled Wake Up!  Each of the four verses on ‘Wake Up Everybody’ tackles a different issue, as outlined by John Legend: “The first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment.”
Featuring 11 tracks inspired by the Soul of the ’60s and ’70s and incorporating elements of gospel, rock, reggae and Hip Hop, Wake Up! is due for release on September 21st through Sony Music.

You don't say good luck, you say don't give up... it's the fire.
Let it burn

The release date (6/22) for The Roots' new album, How I Got Over, is rapidly approaching. Today, we're blessed with track 11 off the LP, "The Fire," featuring John Legend. We first got a taste of this jawn back in March when footage emerged of The Roots crew performing the song during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Let "The Fire" burn up those speakers for now, and be on the lookout for the Rik Cordero directed video coming soon.
I like this one a lot!

Okayplayer just unveiled the second song off The Roots’ forthcoming new studio album How I Got Over. The band reinvents John Legend’s soulful tune “Again” with their Rootsified version which I think is missing from their first release, “Dear God 2.0″. "Doin' It Again" is track 10 from the album and features John Legend.  June 22nd needs to hurry up!

The Roots featuring John Legend - Doin It Again
I am truly obsessed with The Legendary Roots Crew, particularly Black Thought. When I lived in NYC, I NEVER missed a show. I often dragged my sis and cuz kicking and screaming until they were fans themselves. I've meet them a few times, got hugs and cd covers signed. I'm impatiently waiting for their ninth studio album, How I Got Over, to be realeased on June 22nd.

Here is the first single entitled "Dear God 2.0" which is s a reinterpretation of the Monster’s Of Folk song entitled Dear God (which I also like). Black Thought rhymes about his faith in god as well as the ills of life.

Hopefully, a video will follow sooner than later.
